COPPERAS COVE — A Copperas Cove man remained in Coryell County Jail after being charged with attempted burglary of a home in the 2200 block of Veterans Avenue, and possession of cocaine and heroin.

On Sunday, Justice of the Peace John B. Guinn arraigned Ashley Jackson Hughes, 30, on charges of attempted burglary, setting his bond at $10,000; possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram, with a bond of $10,000; and possession of a controlled substance more than 1 gram for the heroin, with bond set at $15,000.

Officers pulled Hughes’ vehicle over in the 2200 block of West Highway 190 because of an inoperable headlight. Officers confirmed that a warrant had been issued for Hughes’ arrest for the alleged attempted home burglary and took him into custody.

An additional officer arrived on the scene and searched Hughes’ car. Court records report that officers found a broken blue pill capsule that contained cocaine in an open compartment of the dashboard. The search also allegedly turned up eight capsules that contained brown heroin hidden inside a cigarette package.

In an unrelated case, Guinn on Monday arraigned Aaron Alexander Brown Jr. on charges of possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. Bond was set at $15,000 for the alleged possession of methamphetamine and $2,500 for the alleged marijuana possession.

Officers allegedly confiscated 3.2 grams of methamphetamine and marijuana from a car that was pulled over on Casa Drive for improper plates.

In an unrelated incident, Guinn arraigned Randle Victore Jones on a charge of endangering a child. Bond was set at $8,000.

Jones allegedly discharged a Mauser rifle inside his home on 11th Street.
