A Copperas Cove man is accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl and later injuring her.

Michael Joseph Gardner Jr., 28, was arraigned Tuesday on felony charges of indecency with a child and injury to a child. According to a police report, the victim told investigators Gardner touched her “inappropriately” Oct. 14 at his home on the 1200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Gardner injured the girl Oct. 15 by throwing her to the ground and stomping on her leg, causing bruising and swelling and a fracture to her left foot, the report stated. The victim told police Gardner was “angry” about what happened the previous night.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Gardner and set his bail at $100,000.

Sara Carolyn Powell, 25, also was charged with indecency with a child. Powell is described in the report as Gardner’s girlfriend.

Police said she was present and was aware of the touching that occurred Oct. 14. Cooke set her bail at $50,000.
