COPPERAS COVE — A Copperas Cove man who was arraigned last week on charges of cruelty to animals faced more charges Monday.

Johnnie Nelson Randolph, 29, was arrested last week for allegedly shooting his two dogs, one in the face and one in the back. During the arrest, he told officers that he owned the 9 mm handgun that he used to shoot the dogs.

When police ran the serial number, the gun was listed as stolen.

In addition to allegedly stealing the Beretta 9 mm from a house on West Avenue D, police said Randolph stole a 12-gauge shotgun, a Microsoft Xbox, a laptop computer and a Pirelli tire.

On Monday, Judge John Guinn arraigned Randolph on charges of burglary of a habitation and theft of a firearm.

Total bond was set at $28,000. He remained in the Coryell County Jail.

In an unrelated case, Guinn also arraigned Danny Ray Lark, 49, on a burglary of a vehicle charge with a previous conviction. His bond was set at $8,000. According to police reports, he was photographed on a cellphone breaking the passenger window of a pickup truck and stealing a stereo.

Police said Lark admitted to the burglary when he was shown a picture of himself committing the crime.

He is being held in the Coryell County Jail.
