COPPERAS COVE — A 28-year-old man is behind bars after being accused by Copperas Cove police of sexually abusing a young child.
William Lester Shawl III was taken into custody by police Monday and arraigned on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a minor by Justice of the Peace Bill Brice.
The investigation into Shawl began Sunday. Police said the investigation revealed that he sexually abused a young female child multiple times over the span of a year.
Cove police did not release the age of the victim, nor whether she was related to Shawl.
Shawl was taken into custody without incident. Price set his bail at $50,000. He has since been transported to the Coryell County Jail.
Continuous sexual abuse of a minor is a first-degree felony, and is punishable by 25 to 99 years in prison, upon conviction.
