COPPERAS COVE — Two teenagers started the year off the wrong way with Copperas Cove police after they were allegedly caught inside a dwelling eating the owner’s food.

On Sunday, Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Donte Demitrious Brown and Kevin Lashunn Barker on a charge of burglary of a habitation. He set bond at $10,000 each.

On Saturday, police responded to a call for criminal trespassing in the 1800 block of North Main Street after a man went by to check on his neighbor’s apartment while she was away for the holidays.

According to police reports, Barker and Brown were allegedly found inside the home and had eaten a bag of potato chips. Police called the homeowner who told officers the suspects did not have permission to be in the apartment. Police later discovered the back door was forced open.

As of Monday, Barker, 17, remained in Coryell County Jail. Brown was free on bond.
