Coyrell County Sheriff's Office makes arrests in hit-and-run case

Updated

GATESVILLE — An anonymous caller helped Coryell County Sheriff's Office make arrests in a squad car hit-and-run case.

Loria Renee Paynter, 22, and Stephen Andrew Jackson, 21, remained in Coryell County Jail today. They are awaiting arraignment on a felony charge of evading arrest and a misdemeanor charge of deadly conduct. Their bail has not been set.

Paynter and Jackson are suspected of driving a vehicle that crashed into a sheriff’s vehicle Nov. 7 in Gatesville and then fled the scene, Coryell County Sheriff Chief Deputy Joe Blakley said. The sheriff's vehicle received about $4,000 in damages, but no one was injured.

The sheriff’s office issued warrants for their arrest after the incident, and with the help of media outlets, someone identified the two shopping and called the office, Blakley said. They were arrested outside a Gatesville store at 2:48 p.m. Sunday.
