GATESVILLE — The capital murder trial of David Keith Allen, the Gatesville pastor charged in the 2011 death of his wife, was postponed until February, 52nd District Attorney Dusty Boyd said Thursday.

Although the defense requested the continuance, Boyd said the prosecution also wanted the delay to investigate new information in the case, which may result in additional charges.

“We believe that, after further investigation, it is fair to say additional charges are forthcoming,” Boyd said.

“We will consider those new charges over the course of the next few weeks and act on them accordingly,” he said. “Our hope is that, should additional charges be alleged, they will be tried in conjunction with the current” murder charge.

Allen, 51, is accused of setting fire to the family mobile home while Paula Diann Allen was inside.

Jury selection was set to start Nov. 19, but was rescheduled for Feb. 12. The trial is set to begin Feb. 24.

Allen’s current wife, Megan Allen, was charged with perjury in July.

The indictment alleged she lied to investigators about having a relationship with Allen months before the fire.

Megan Allen’s pretrial hearing is in December, Boyd said, and her case should have no impact or bearing on Allen’s case.
