A male driver led Killeen police officers on a chase around the city Tuesday night before eventually being apprehended after abandoning the vehicle.

"Last night officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of W. S. Young Drive and Veterans Memorial Boulevard, and the driver decided he didn't want to stop," said Tina Amerson, a spokeswoman with the Killeen Police Department. "The driver eventually hit a spike strip in the 1200 block of South Fort Hood Street and proceeded to flee on foot."

A Killeen Daily Herald employee witnessed part of the chase firsthand and said the suspect drove through the intersection of Florence Road and Jasper Road twice before heading to South Fort Hood Street. According to information heard on a police scanner, the driver at one point made it into Harker Heights before turning around.

The person reportedly crossed both lanes of traffic on U.S. Highway 190 before being apprehended on the other side by officers. The chase ended shortly after 9 p.m.

At this time the driver has not been charged and remains unidentified. No injuries were reported as a result of the chase.
