Killeen police were involved in a car chase in north Killeen early Monday morning that led to the hospitalization of one person and resulted in 16 residents displaced  from their apartments.

Around 3 a.m., after a car chase of several blocks, a woman driving a white Chevy Malibu crashed the vehicle into an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Lake Road, according to police reports.

The front end of the car caught fire and caused the evacuation of the building.

None of the apartment residents were injured and firefighters were able to remove the woman from the vehicle before the flames reached the cab. She was transported to Scott and White Memorial Hospital with a broken ankle.

Police had initiated the chase after a 911 caller had reported a female breaking the windows of a residence in the 2000 block of Coach Drive.

The woman's name is being withheld at this time.
