A 38-year-old Copperas Cove woman is being held in Bell County Jail after a Killeen electronics and appliance business discovered she had allegedly embezzled more than $230,000.

Cinthia Dawn Crane was charged with theft over $200,000, a first-degree felony, for allegedly stealing money from Modern TV and Appliance for more than three years.

The owner of the business, Billy J. Mills, reported to Killeen police on July 8 that Crane, his administrative assistant, had written numerous unauthorized checks from the business’ account to herself and two other people. In total, the checks amounted to $235,917. Mills told police he became suspicious of Crane after she refused to provide bank statements to his accountant.

He discovered the unauthorized checks after he was able to independently access the account. Crane remained in Bell County Jail on Friday with bond set at $250,000.

Modern TV and Appliance is Killeen’s only family-owned electronics store. The business has remained at its downtown location since it opened in 1957, according to its website.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said no other charges are pending at this time.
