CRIME

A 21-year-old Florida man was arraigned on two charges of sexual assault by Justice of the Peace Claudia Brown.

A warrant for the arrest of Steven Swearingen was issued by Brown on Dec. 5 in connection with an incident that took place July 4 at the Summerlyn Apartments on East Rancier Avenue in Killeen.

Swearingen was in a pool at the apartment complex when he began to grope a woman, according to police. After the woman told Swearingen to stop, he allegedly pulled off her bathing suit bottoms and raped her, according to an arrest affidavit.

The woman told police that Swearingen didn’t get off her until her friend got into the pool. Once the friend entered the pool, Swearingen left the first woman alone and turned his attention to the second, police said.

He proceeded to kiss the second woman in the pool, and attempted to rape her as well, according to an arrest affidavit.

A total bond amount of $150,000 was issued for Swearingen. He was not in the Bell County Jail as of 4 p.m. Thursday. Each offense is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
