COPPERAS COVE - Copperas Cove City Councilman Gary Kent announced Tuesday he's hanging up one hat and donning another.

Kent was appointed Nolanville's police chief by the Nolanville City Council Thursday and announced Tuesday his resignation from his position as a full-time facility manager on Fort Hood.

"I am resigning from my position at Fort Hood," he told the Killeen Daily Herald.

Kent, a 16-year veteran of the Nolanville Police Department, has already assumed his role as the town's new police chief.

Accepting the position makes Kent the city's 28 police chief since 1964.

Kent said he will maintain his position on the Copperas Cove City Council.

"It's not a juggling act," he said. "It's just like any other person who has a job."

Kent said he is familiar with his new job and with his role on the city council.

"It's not any issue," he said.

Kent was hired after former police chief Lester Holsey Jr. resigned Thursday.
