BELTON — The Killeen man accused of attacking a woman and her young son with a hammer was indicted on two felony charges by a Bell County grand jury Wednesday.
Cecil Howell Jr., 42, was indicted on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of injury to a child. Howell was arrested Jan. 14 after his girlfriend told police he struck her across the face with a hammer, according to an arrest affidavit.
When the woman’s son tried to help her, Howell also hit him with the hammer, the affidavit stated.
Both victims were taken to Metroplex Hospital.
Police arrested Howell later that night after they found him walking in the 100 block of North College Street.
Howell has a prior criminal history.
According to court records, he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, 1 to 4 grams, in Denton County in 2011.
Howell is currently in Bell County Jail. His bail is set at $400,000.
