BELTON — A Bell County grand jury Wednesday indicted a 36-year-old Killeen man who was accused of assaulting a woman who refused to have sex with him.

Corey Lamale Hart was charged with aggravated assault. Because of numerous previous convictions, he could face life in prison if found guilty.

The jury indicted Hart on Wednesday in connection with a Jan. 21 incident at a home in the 900 block of Evergreen Drive.

According to an arrest affidavit, Hart and a female had been at a bar when the woman asked to be taken home.

At the home, the woman told Hart to leave and he refused. He exposed his genitals to the woman, and she began to defend herself with a broom, the affidavit stated.

Hart allegedly began to punch and kick the woman. He knocked out one of her front teeth and assaulted her until she lost consciousness, the affidavit stated.

The victim identified Hart by name and in a photo lineup.

Hart has been in and out of Bell County Jail 13 times since an arrest in 2004 for driving with a suspended license. He has been convicted of misdemeanor assault three times in the past five years and in 2008 was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of arson. He served less than one year.

Hart remains in Bell County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
