BELTON - A grand jury indicted a 48-year-old Killeen man Wednesday accused of killing a motorcyclist while driving drunk.

Charges of intoxicated manslaughter will now move forward against Eugene Kelly Wolfenberger. He is accused of killing 47-year-old William Allen Reed while they both drove on Westcliff Road.

An arrest affidavit states Wolfenberger fled from the scene of a collision Aug. 11 in his truck after rear-ending Reed.

Police arrested Wolfenberger after his wife called police and told them her husband had been involved in a crash while driving drunk.

When police arrived at his home, they spoke with Wolfenberger. He told police, "I am the one you're looking for. I did the bad deed," the affidavit states.

Wolfenberger smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and poor balance. Police also observed damage to the front end of his vehicle.

After refusing to participate in a blood draw to determine Wolfenberger's blood-alcohol content, he was detained and taken to Metroplex Hospital, where a mandatory blood draw was performed.

The Texas Department of Public Safety tested Wolfenberger's blood and determined his blood-alcohol level to be 0.30, nearly four times the legal limit, the affidavit states.

Analysis of the crash site determined Wolfenberger was driving at least 54 mph at the time of the collision, more than 20 mph above the posted speed limit.
