GATESVILLE — A Coryell County grand jury Tuesday indicted a Copperas Cove woman suspected of biting a 4-year-old boy on the thigh.

Calin Champman, 26, was indicted on a charge of injury to a child, a third-degree felony.

According to the arrest affidavit, police went looking for the boy after Child Protective Services reported he was not at school and allegedly was bitten by Calin.

Police located the child at his babysitter’s house where he and witnesses explained the boy was bitten for being bad, an arrest affidavit stated.

The boy was throwing a fit because he had not had enough for breakfast. Champman then allegedly placed the boy over her shoulder and began to spank him and then sunk her teeth into the child’s thigh.

This was not Champman’s first time to reprimand children with her teeth, according to the affidavit.

Police reviewed photos of the child’s bite marks, which appeared to be made by adult teeth because of the size of the bruising.

The grand jury also indicted:

  • Austin Chase Edwards, 27, of Gatesville, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
  • Roy Don Freeman, 54, of Gatesville, on a charge of driving while intoxicated, third or more offense.
  • Tim Blackburn, 19, of Copperas Cove, on two charges of forgery and a charge of debit card abuse.
