BELTON — A Bell County grand jury Wednesday indicted a 22-year-old Killeen woman on felony harassment charges for allegedly spitting on a Killeen police officer.

The grand jury affirmed charges of harassment of a public servant against Lakedra Kache Jones. Jones may now face trial for the charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The allegation resulted from an Aug. 17 incident in the 2500 block of Trimmier Road, where an officer found Jones asleep behind the wheel of a car on the side of the road, according to an arrest affidavit.

Jones would not respond to commands from the officers or sirens. Police also detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her mouth.

When they woke Jones, she became agitated and belligerent. Police determined she may have been a threat to herself or others and attempted to place her under arrest for public intoxication, the affidavit stated.

Police struggled to detain Jones, who while handcuffed, resisted officers’ efforts to place her in the back of a patrol car. She then spit on an officer, hitting him in the face.

Jones has remained in Bell County Jail since her Aug. 17 arrest. She pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces in 2009.

The grand jury also returned indictments against the following:
