BELTON — A Bell County grand jury indicted a 29-year-old woman on manslaughter charges Wednesday for allegedly killing a man while driving drunk on U.S. Highway 190 in Nolanville.

Dana Beth Tackett was charged with intoxicated manslaughter, a second-degree felony, in connection with the July 10 death of Dante Fair. Tackett could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

According to court documents, Tackett was driving a Hyundai Tiburon the wrong way on westbound U.S. 190 when the crash occurred.

Before the crash, a driver alerted police to a person driving the wrong way on the highway. A Nolanville police officer attempted to intercept the driver before a crash occurred, but learned of a head-on collision while en route.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified at the scene as Tackett. She, along with the driver and passenger of an Acura involved in the collision, were taken to Scott & White Hospital.

Fair, who was the passenger in the Acura, died at the hospital from blunt force injuries sustained in the crash, the documents stated.

At the hospital, police drew a blood sample from Tackett. A Texas Department of Public Safety lab later showed her blood alcohol level to be 0.20, more than twice the legal limit, the documents stated.

Tackett is free on $30,000 bond.

The grand jury also returned indictments against the following:

  • Royce Reeves, 58, of Temple, on a charge of murder. Reeves is accused of stabbing his estranged wife, Autumn Reeves, to death in Temple on Aug. 6.
