A purse-snatching at a local gym turned into a high-speed chase Wednesday in which multiple cars were damaged.
Police arrested a 31-year-old female and are looking for a male suspect in connection with the robbery that occurred in front of Gold’s Gym in the 900 block of West Central Expressway about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Police have not released the female suspect’s name pending a review of the case by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.
Police were en route to the gym when a witness called 911 and notified police that they were following the suspects’ black Dodge Charger near Stan Schlueter Loop and Texas State Highway 195.
An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the female driver refused to pull over, Killeen Police Department spokeswoman Carroll Smith said.
She led police west on Central Texas Expressway and then north on W.S. Young Drive.
While attempting to elude police, she crashed the Charger into two vehicles on Grandon Drive, Smith said. The driver then lost control of the car at the intersection of Grandon Drive and Delwin Circle.
The car crashed into a metal street lamp, causing the Charger to spin. It then hit a tree and a brick mailbox.
The car came to rest at the intersection of Grandon Drive and Estelle Avenue, Smith said.
The male passenger then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot through the neighborhood. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. He has not been arrested.
No one was injured during the pursuit or the crashes.
Police are asking anyone with information about the male suspect to call Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-8477, go to www.killeencrimestoppers.com or text KILLEEN along with the tip to 274637.
All tips can be made anonymously, and a tip leading to an arrest may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
