Harker Heights teen charged with robbery

A Harker Heights teenager was behind bars Thursday after police arrested him for allegedly assaulting and robbing a 17-year-old.

Police charged Efrem Trevon Edwards, 18, with robbery with bodily injury. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Edwards on Thursday, setting his bail at $100,000.

Edwards allegedly attacked a 17-year-old man on Oct. 2 while attempting to steal a cellphone, according to an arrest affidavit.

The alleged victim was walking home from school on the day of the incident when a car pulled alongside him.

The victim later told police Edwards asked if he could borrow a cellphone. The victim refused, telling police he knew Edwards stole cellphones, the affidavit stated.

The car drove off, but returned moments later. Edwards again asked to borrow the victim’s cellphone and again was refused. However, he then got out of the car along with another man and started punching the 17-year-old, the affidavit stated.

The assault continued until a woman who knew Edwards, the victim and the other man involved drove up and began honking her horn and yelling until the assault stopped.

The woman later identified Edwards and the other man, who is not being named because he has not been formally charged, by showing police their Facebook pages.

The victim also identified Edwards in a photo lineup, the affidavit stated.

Judge Potvin also arraigned Steven Joseph Resnick, 29, on two unrelated charged of theft of a firearm.
