A 16-year-old Harker Heights boy was fatally shot outside a Killeen apartment complex late Wednesday, police said.
Emmanuel Xavier Nangah was found lying in the north parking lot of the Terrace Heights Apartments with severe gunshot wounds, according to a Killeen Police Department news release.
Officials did not release any descriptions of suspects but are treating the case as a homicide. As of Thursday evening, no arrests were made. The death is the city’s fourth homicide this year, police said.
Nangah was taken to Fort Hood’s Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke, who ordered an autopsy at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
Police arrived at 11:27 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Terrace Drive after receiving several calls about gunshots in the area.
“(Nangah) passed my husband going down the stairs, and they said, ‘What’s up?’ and then about 15 minutes later we heard, ‘bang, bang,’ around four or five shots,” said Monica Jennings, a resident of the apartment complex.
Another resident, who did not want to be named, said she was in her apartment when she heard the shots fired.
“I looked out the window and there was a guy doing this and this,” the resident said, grabbing at her neck and stomach. “I don’t know, I guess he got shot in the neck, I don’t know.”
Police were seen Thursday morning combing a nearby field and investigating possible bullet marks in two walls of the apartment complex.
