2 Heights shooting suspects charged

Two suspects in a shooting last week in Harker Heights are behind bars in Bell County Jail and charged with robbery.

Authorities charged Gini Lee Taylor, 25, and Devin Dasean Simmons, 25, with aggravated robbery. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Taylor on Tuesday, setting her bail at $100,000.

When charged, Simmons was already in the jail on a charge of misdemeanor assault. His bond was not yet set for the robbery charge, according to jail records.

Taylor and Simmons are believed to have robbed a man Oct. 16 inside their house in the 1600 block of Inca Drive in Harker Heights.

A report of shots fired led police to the area where the shooting occurred at the morning of the incident. Police spoke with Taylor and Simmons and retrieved the keys to a car that belonged to the alleged victim, an arrest affidavit stated.

While in the area, police received a report of a man who had been shot on Pueblo Trace. Police met with the man, who said Taylor and Simmons robbed him at gunpoint, taking his wallet, keys and cellphone, the affidavit stated. He identified Simmons from a photo lineup and knew Taylor as “Candy.”

He told police he was shot in the hip while trying to escape their home by jumping out a window.

Police returned to the home where the alleged robbery occurred and found a bullet casing, bullets, bullet fragments and a bullet hole in the residence.

Officers also found a window that had been broken with glass outside of the residence.

Also arraigned on an unrelated charge was Michael James Richardson, 33, on a charge of aggravated sexual assault.

Richardson’s bail was set at $100,000.
