TEMPLE — Little River-Academy Interim Police Chief Michael Lugo resigned after less than two weeks on the job. His resignation became effective just before 9 p.m. Wednesday.

He had been appointed as the interim police chief to fill the vacancy left in June after Chief Lee Dixon was shot and killed in the line of duty.

Lugo gave no reason for stepping down. Mayor Ronnie White said Lugo simply announced his resignation at Wednesday’s council meeting.

“He told me, ‘I’m going to resign. It’s nothing between you and me,’” Dixon said. Lugo had not shown up for work several days earlier and said the reason was personal, Dixon said.

Lugo signed the resignation papers after the meeting, White said.

Lugo could not be reached for comment.
