A juvenile driving a car fleeing from police rammed the vehicle into a utility building at Long Branch Park in Killeen, causing a chlorine spill Wednesday morning, police said.

Police were called to the park, which contains a swimming pool and splash pad, after a 911 call about an armed subject at 7:30 a.m., said Tina Amerson, a spokeswoman for the Killeen Police Department. When officers arrived, a car chase ensued in and around the park. The juvenile behind the wheel was driving a green 2000 Ford Focus, which contained three other juveniles, police said.

“The suspects fled throughout the park continuing through the grass and collided with the building that holds the chemicals for the public pool,” according to a KPD news release.

“Once they crashed, all four of the suspects took off running,” Amerson said.

All four were soon apprehended, she said, adding there were no reported injuries but all of the suspects and police officers who came into contact with the chlorine were treated for possible reactions to the chemical.

A Killeen Fire Department hazmat team was called to the park to clean up the chlorine.

“The suspects, two males and two females ranging from ages 13 to 16 years old, were released to a parent or guardian to seek precautionary medical attention,” police said. Their names will not be released.

Amerson said no dangerous weapon was found during the investigation.

Why not make a law that punishes these kids by adding a good couple of years before they are eligible to get a drivers license...I am sure that would get their attention. It would teach them and others that there are consequences for their actions.
