A Killeen man was arrested after police said they caught him driving drunk with a small child in his vehicle.
Isaiah Thomas, 26, was arraigned Thursday on a state jail felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a child passenger by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke. Cooke set Thomas’ bail at $20,000.
A Killeen police officer pulled over Thomas’ vehicle at 1:31 a.m. Wednesday night as it traveled near Watercrest Road and Waterfall Drive.
The officer observed the vehicle moving 54 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, and it later increased its speed to 70 mph, an arrest affidavit stated. After the vehicle was stopped, the officer said he could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Thomas. He also had red eyes and slurred speech. A breath test later revealed Thomas had a blood alcohol level of 0.13, the affidavit stated.
The officer who pulled Thomas over also observed a second passenger in the vehicle a 4 year-old girl.
Thomas is currently in custody in Bell County Jail, according to jail records.
Cooke also arraigned Latoya Marie Burnette, 39, on an unrelated charge of criminal mischief more than 1,500, but less than $20,000. Burnette’s bail was set at $20,000.
