A Killeen man wanted in connection with numerous burglaries in the area was arrested in a trash bin after running from police Tuesday afternoon.

Killeen Police Department spokeswoman Carroll Smith said about 2 p.m. officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle known to be occupied by a suspect with outstanding felony warrants. A pursuit began near the intersection of Clear Creek Road and Stan Schlueter Loop. Eventually, the suspect ditched the vehicle in a grassy area behind a business in the 300 block of Cheyenne Drive.

Smith said the suspect got out of his vehicle, jumped a fence and ran across Central Texas Expressway and U.S. Highway 190 into an apartment complex where he hid in a trash bin.

The suspect was detained about 30 minutes after the pursuit began.

Smith said the suspect has outstanding felony warrants for burglaries and traffic warrants and could face charges for evading arrest.

Police had not released the suspect’s name as of Tuesday afternoon.
