A Killeen man is facing murder charges after police said he shot and stabbed a woman to death in his apartment. Daniel Lorenzo Wilson, 41, of Killeen, was charged Wednesday with the murder of 43-year-old Karen Louise Edwards at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Mimosa Street in Killeen early Monday morning.
A witness told police she was with Wilson in his apartment when he shot Edwards three times, then stabbed and cut the woman with “a sword” after a verbal altercation, according to an arrest affidavit.
Wilson then held the witness at gunpoint, and forced her to help him drag Edwards’ body to an abandoned residence nearby, the affidavit stated.
After returning to Wilson’s apartment, the witness was able to escape and alert police.
Wilson was taken into custody around 7:40 a.m. Monday after a two-hour standoff with Killeen police and SWAT officers.
Officers at the scene found a large amount of blood in Wilson’s apartment and seized “numerous” knives and swords from the residence, the affidavit stated.
In an interview with investigators, Wilson initially denied doing anything wrong, but later admitted Edwards came to the apartment and that she “knew how to push my buttons,” the affidavit stated.
Assistant District Attorney Mike Waldman said Wilson and Edwards were “formerly romantically involved.”
He said the witness was a friend of both people.
Court records show Wilson has a criminal record, including three arrests for assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
One case in July 1997 was dismissed.
A second case in December 1997 resulted in a three-day jail sentence and a $500 fine.
Wilson served another three days in jail and paid a $750 fine on the third charge, stemming from an arrest in April 1999, the records showed.
Other charges on his record include a state jail felony conviction for possession of controlled substance and a DUI conviction in June.
Wilson’s bail was set at $1 million. He is in Bell County Jail.
