BELTON — Jury selection in the trial of a 37-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl began Monday in Bell County district court.

Michael Shane Chick, of Killeen, could face up to life in prison if convicted of the alleged July 20, 2012, rape. Chick was indicted by a grand jury in April.

According to an arrest affidavit, Chick showed his victim a pornographic movie. She later told a forensic investigator that Chick then forced her to perform sexual acts.

Police later found a record of movies Chick had watched on a website. One of them matched a description of the movie provided by the child.

According to previous reports, Chick would sometimes baby-sit the girl.
