Skeletal remains discovered last week in Bell County were identified as an Austin woman reported missing in early August, Killeen police said Friday.

Using dental records, medical examiners at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas identified the remains as 32-year-old Shenetria Norwood. A family member reported Norwood missing on Aug. 4.

Police and members of Baylor University’s Anthropology Department recovered Norwood’s remains on Sept. 21 in a rural area off Quarry Road, northwest of Nolanville. Medical examiners verified her identity Thursday.

Norwood’s last known location was an unspecified hotel in Killeen, police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said. She last spoke to her family Aug. 2.

During the investigation, police began to recover Norwood’s personal possessions at various locations in Killeen. Smith would not say where the items were located, but noted that they had not been sold to any local pawn shops.

Police are calling Norwood’s death a homicide. If Norwood was killed in Killeen, it would bring the city’s total to nine homicides this year.
