A man is facing a charge of delivery of marijuana to a child following a shooting Friday that left a 15-year-old dead.

Marcus Deon Brown, 23, said in a statement to police that he agreed to sell the victim, Courtrell Jackson, marijuana, according to an arrest affidavit.

Brown picked up Jackson and after driving for a short period of time, Jackson allegedly pulled a firearm on Brown “and attempted to rob the suspect and fired a round at (Brown),” according to the report,

The affidavit stated Brown had his own firearm and returned fire, shooting Jackson. Brown had a “large amount of currency” on him at the time of his arrest, and he admitted to police he is “in the business of selling marijuana.”

When police arrived in the 1300 block of Fox Creek Drive, they found Jackson lying on the ground with gunshot wounds, according to the affidavit. Next to him was a firearm. According to the report, Jackson also had marijuana.

Jackson was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, where he was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke, according to a news release from the Killeen Police Department.

An autopsy was ordered at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas. Cooke set Brown’s bail at $250,000.
