A Killeen police officer and suspect were transported to a local hospital Wednesday evening after hitting their heads together during a foot pursuit.

A Killeen police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red sedan at approximately 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Virginia Street and Adams Avenue, KPD spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said.

The driver of the sedan continued to travel before coming to a stop on Northup Street.

The officer noticed some movement in the vehicle during the stop and asked the driver to exit.

As the officer was escorting the driver to the rear of the vehicle, the driver fled and a foot pursuit ensued, Miramontez said. A nearby officer assisted with the pursuit.

When the first officer caught up with the driver, their heads collided during the arrest.

The injured officer and suspect were both escorted to a local hospital.

The officer has been released and the suspect is listed in stable condition.
