A 29-year-old Killeen man is behind bars after police say he choked a woman.
Police charged Daniel Alejandro Velarde with assault by strangulation in connection with an alleged assault Saturday at an unspecified home in Killeen.
A woman told police Velarde impeded her breathing by wrapping his hands around her neck and squeezing, an arrest affidavit stated.
An officer saw the woman had small, broken blood vessels in her eyes, which is common after being strangled, the affidavit stated.
Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Velarde and set his bond at $100,000. Velarde remained in Bell County Jail on Monday.
Potvin also arraigned the following on unrelated charges:
Gilda Marie Taylor, 36, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams. Taylor’s bond was set at $50,000.
Jose Angel Castillo Jr., 27, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams. Castillo’s bond was set at $30,000.
