One man was in custody after a nearly 90-minute armed standoff with Killeen police that involved a child.
Police were called to a home at 12:52 p.m. Thursday in 400 block of Taurus Drive on a report of a domestic disturbance involving a weapon.
A woman escaped the residence, but was not able to retrieve her 3-year-old son.
She told police the boy was inside the home with an armed man.
Killeen’s SWAT team was called to the scene and several neighboring homes were evacuated.
“I pulled up, and all I saw were cops,” said Ruby Boddie, a 40-year-old mother of four who lives near the home where the incident occurred. “This is a pretty quiet neighborhood, with lots of families and military families. It’s the kind of place where everyone says hello to each other.”
At 2:15 p.m., the man, described as a Hispanic male in his 30s, walked out of the house with the boy and was taken into custody.
The child was unharmed. As of Thursday afternoon, the Killeen Police Department had not released the man’s name or announced any charges against him.
