A suspect is in custody after a shooting Friday left a 15-year-old boy dead.

The Killeen Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Fox Creek Drive at 5:24 p.m. Friday, after receiving a 911 call in reference to a shooting.

Officers found a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound in the 1300 block of Fox Creek Drive. He was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke, according to a KPD news release.

An autopsy was ordered at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Investigators learned the victim, whose name was withheld by police Friday night, and another male were involved in an altercation inside a dark Saturn. The driver shot the passenger, who fled the vehicle and collapsed on a sidewalk, police said.

The driver was taken into custody at the scene and was in Killeen City Jail on Friday night. His name was withheld pending formal charges by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.

so sad, I interacted with this young man only a few times and as a mother, and educator it is sad to hear of such news. My heart goes out to his mother and father and yet another young live lost.

Nuli - the point was there are too many guns available and not enough common sense controls put on them. Say like trigger locks so young kids don't shoot their siblings. Just too many guns available.

I agree with your message of saying NO to the culture or glorification of violence. I applaud your efforts and wish you much success.

I'm sure you'll agree saving lives will take a multi-prong effort which includes work like yours as well as there being fewer guns within easy reach and use during confrontations which seem so much more prevalent in our "don't disrespect me" society.

now that you have clarified your statement, yes you are right about keeping them secure. that alone will reduce incidents, however those that want a firearm will get them regardless! banning guns is not the answer changing the mentality is the way we need to go.

Not really interested in betting on race Nuli. You've already shown you're superiority.

Why don't we instead bet on model of weapon, its registration status and several other factors regarding its availability. Want to bet on any of that Nuli?

make or caliber of weapon has nothing to do with it a young man is dead!

furthermore, since I am a very black retired police officer I know the perp was also black..I am saddened by the high incidence of black crime. I worked with youths of all colors for 22 years to try to get them to under stand why it is important to just learn to say "NO"

anyone want to bet on what race?[beam]
