BELTON — A grand jury indicted a 40-year-old Killeen woman Thursday who is accused of assaulting a police officer while attempting to flee authorities.

The grand jury indicted Hyneshia Darchele Addison on charges of evading arrest in a motor vehicle and assault of a public servant in connection with a Sept. 4 incident in Killeen.

Addison had been driving on Fort Hood Street when she encountered a car accident at Jasper Road, which caused a roadblock while police responded to the crash.

Addison attempted to pass the roadblock by driving on the shoulder, an arrest affidavit states. An officer ordered Addison to stop her vehicle and asked for her driver’s license. The officer was leaning inside the vehicle’s passenger window when Addison drove off, causing the officer to spin around and injure his left side. The officer later said he was afraid he would be run over by the rear wheels of Addison’s car.

Addison led police on a three-mile chase before stopping in a trailer park and fleeing on foot. Officers surrounded Addison and arrested her there.

The incident also led her to be charged with possession of a dangerous drug and driving without a license.

Addison could face up to 10 years in prison, if convicted.

Court records show Addison was charged with evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram on Nov. 11.

She also has been listed as absent without leave from Fort Hood.

In 2008, Addison pleaded guilty to a charge of theft by check less than $500.

Addison is in custody at Bell County Jail with bail set at $217,000.
