Killeen police have charged the woman involved in Sunday’s homicide with murder.

Police identified the woman as 36-year-old Vilmarie Mateo, the wife of the victim. Mateo is believed to have shot Jose L. Mateo Sunday afternoon during a dispute at their home in the 2500 block of Wiley Drive.

Vilmarie Mateo remained in custody at Killeen City Jail awaiting arraignment. She will be transferred to Bell County Jail once a justice of the peace sets her bail.

Police arrested Vilmarie Mateo after responding to a call of shots fired at her home in the Chimney Corners neighborhood in north Killeen. When police arrived, they found Jose Mateo suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home.

He was pronounced dead at the residence, and police took Vilmarie Mateo into custody.
