A 26-year-old Killeen woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident on Rancier Avenue in March.
Waco police apprehended Cassandra Marzella Ekis on charges of striking and killing the operator of a motorcycle and fleeing the scene on foot, according to a Killeen police news release Wednesday.
Killeen police responded to a collision at 11:19 p.m. March 22 in the 1400 block of Rancier Avenue.
An investigation revealed a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon operated by Ekis was traveling westbound on the inside lane on Rancier Avenue, and a 2016 Suzuki motorcycle operated by Derrick Roy Evans, 48, of Killeen, was traveling eastbound in the outside lane on Rancier Avenue.
Ekis failed to yield right of way when she attempted to turn left onto Alexander Street, causing the motorcycle to collide with the vehicle, according to the release, then fled on foot before officers arrived on the scene.
Roy was rushed to Baylor Scott & White in Temple in critical condition and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Don Engleking at 2:20 a.m. March 23.
Ekis is being held in Bell County Jail pending arraignment.
