Killeen woman faces child abandonment charge

Killeen police charged a 25-year-old woman with child abandonment after a neighbor allegedly found her 3-year-old child alone in the middle of a roadway.

Police arrested Latoya Olivia Parker Monday after receiving a report of a crying child wearing nothing but a diaper alone on the roadway on Williamson Drive in Killeen, according to an arrest affidavit.

A neighbor found the child and attempted to make contact with someone at the child’s home in the 900 block of Williamson Drive, where the front door was open.

Police spoke with other neighbors, including one who said Parker was the mother of the child and that she regularly left her children unattended, the affidavit stated.

When Parker returned home, she told police she left the child in the care of another person. However, Parker could not contact that person or provide any contact information for that person to police, the affidavit stated.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Parker on Wednesday, setting her bail at $50,000. She remained in Bell County Jail on Wednesday night.
