Killeen police arrested a 52-year-old man they said broke into a home and chased a woman with a hammer.

Frances Ruden Harris was charged with burglary of a habitation in connection with an alleged break-in Monday at a home in the 2400 block of Sunny Lane.

Harris broke into the home at 9:49 a.m. Monday while a female resident was asleep. She told police Harris made entry though a broken window next to the front door, an arrest affidavit states.

Harris yelled at the woman to get out of her home and began to chase her. She called the police while the suspect was pursuing her with a hammer. Once chased outside, she saw Harris go back into her home and emerge holding her purse, the affidavit states.

He then left in a vehicle Killeen police pulled over a short time later. Police found the woman’s purse inside the car.

Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Harris on Wednesday, setting his bail at $50,000.
