Killeen police arrested a 46-year-old man they said had crack cocaine.
Howard Gamble Hightower was charged with possession of cocaine, less than 1 gram.
Police arrested Hightower on Monday outside a motel in the 700 block of East Veterans Memorial Boulevard that is well known to officers as a high-crime location known for drugs and prostitution, according to an arrest affidavit.
An officer patrolling the area watched several individuals go inside one of the rooms at the motel and exit a few minutes later.
The officer presumed they had just bought narcotics, the affidavit stated.
The officer approached a man sitting in a pickup truck.
The man, later identified as Hightower, spoke with the officer and twice agreed to be searched. The officer found two yellow rock-like substances in one of his pockets. The substance field tested positive as cocaine.
Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Hightower on Wednesday, setting his bail at $20,000.
In an unrelated incident, Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Tim Blackburn on a charge of forgery financial instrument and set his bail at $8,000.
