Killeen police arrested a 28-year-old man they believe used a stolen checkbook to write himself checks.

Police charged Mykael Donnel Lane with forgery by passing. Officers arrested Lane just after midnight Tuesday in the 2500 block of East Farm-to-Market 439.

An arrest affidavit stated police learned of a possible forgery after a man contacted officers and made a report that someone had used a stolen check to cash a $550 check at a First National Bank branch in a local H-E-B store.

Police later obtained the allegedly forged check and saw that it had been written to Lane. Surveillance video from the grocery store depicted a man an officer recognized as Lane cashing the check, the affidavit stated.

Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Lane on Wednesday, setting his bond at $20,000.
