Police are looking for a man they believe may have information about the Thursday shooting death of a 38-year-old man in Killeen.
The Killeen Police Department issued a statement Tuesday morning asking the public to help locate Michael Shane Laurenti, a 27-year-old white man.
According to KPD, detectives believe that Laurenti may have information regarding the death of Maurice Carter.
Carter was found shot multiple times inside an upstairs apartment at the Highlander Apartments complex in the 300 block of North 22nd Street on Thursday. Police are investigating Carter’s death as a homicide, making it Killeen’s third homicide of 2013.
Laurenti is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
Laurenti has not been charged with a crime, and police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said he is not an official suspect in Carter’s death.
“He may be able to fill in the gaps in what (detectives) already have,” Smith said.
Friends of the victim said they believe the man responsible for Carter’s death is a white man who lived in the same apartment complex. Court records show Laurenti’s most recent address as an apartment in the Highlander Apartments complex, where the shooting occurred.
Police are asking that anyone who knows of Laurenti’s whereabouts or knows how to contact him, to contact the Killeen Police Department at (254) 501-8830, Detective Kaiser at (254) 501-8936 or Detective K. Tramp at (254) 501-8866.
