Man accused in fatal SXSW crash appears in court

Rashad Charjuan Owens appeared in court Wednesday for a brief status hearing in Austin.

The Killeen resident is charged with one count of capital murder, four counts of felony murder and 24 counts of aggravated assault after running his car into a South By Southwest music festival crowd March 13.

Owens is accused of driving drunk and fleeing police and killing four people during the incident.

His next court appearance is July 8, but it could be more than a year before his trial.
