A 24-year-old Killeen man is behind bars after police say he threatened a man with a shotgun in order to steal $20.

Police charged Bryce Cameron Bates with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony. Bates remained in Bell County Jail on Monday night, with bail set at $100,000 by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.

Police arrested Bates on Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery reported Nov. 18 at an apartment complex in the 200 block of East Hallmark Avenue in Killeen.

A possible accomplice in the alleged robbery named Bates as the man who held up a resident with a shotgun. Bates has confessed, according to an arrest affidavit made public Monday.

Police responded to the robbery about 10 p.m. the day of the incident and met with the alleged victim. He told police he was leaving his apartment when Bates pointed the shotgun at him and ordered him to empty his pockets, the affidavit states. He then placed a $20 bill on the ground.

During the investigation, police located a man and a woman living in the same apartment complex. They told police a man they knew approached them and asked if he could borrow $20.

The two witnesses said no, and the possible accomplice put on a ski mask and said he was about to get some money anyway. When the couple asked him what he meant, he pointed toward Bates, who they saw was pointing the shotgun at the alleged victim.

The man then bragged that they had just robbed someone of $20, which the couple saw Bates hand to the man. The couple then called police.

An arrest affidavit names the possible accomplice as Xavier Devoyrez Gray. The affidavit states Gray was charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon as well, though he has yet to be arraigned and was not in Bell County Jail on Monday.

Police did have Gray detained for an unspecified ordinance violation. While being interrogated, Gray told police he was present for the robbery and that he had helped Bates secure the shotgun used in the robbery.

When police spoke to Bates, he claimed Gray had the shotgun.

Also arraigned were the following:

Michael Desean Gregory, 22, on a charge of robbery. Gregory’s bond was set at $100,000.

James Edward Sullivan, 41, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Sullivan’s bond was set at $100,000.

Carlos Juan Ramoslefevre, 23, on a charge of evading arrest in a motor vehicle. Ramoslefevre’s bond was set at $50,000.
