A 30-year-old man who allegedly hit and choked his pregnant girlfriend multiple times is facing felony assault charges.
Lamar Deruinte Harris was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Garland Potivn on Thursday on a charge of assault of a family or household member by strangulation.
Harker Heights police responded to a report of domestic violence Feb. 14 at a residence in the 800 block of Danny Circle. When they arrived they found a woman standing in the roadway who appeared distraught and frightened, according to an arrest affidavit.
The woman, who described Harris as her boyfriend, told police he grabbed her throat and squeezed it until it felt like she was about to pass out.
She also said Harris struck her with an open hand and a closed fist, the affidavit stated.
The woman, who told police she was eight months pregnant, claimed Harris punched and kicked her, and strangled her six times before the police arrived.
She said Harris said he didn’t care if she died and he wanted to kill her, the affidavit stated.
Police also found a handgun and suspected marijuana inside the residence.
Potvin set Harris’ bail at $100,000.
