COPPERAS COVE — Police arrested a man suspected of carrying 0.03 grams of methamphetamine after trying to question him about a potential car theft.

Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned William Harold Nottingham on Tuesday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Price set his bond at $10,000.

Cove police were dispatched to a possible vehicle theft in progress in the 2000 block of Ubantke Street about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

While police were en route, the victim told police he and a male got into a fight and the male left. The victim then gave a description of the person to police.

Officers discovered Nottingham matching that description and he was still in the area of the reported theft, an arrest affidavit stated. When an officer tried to question Nottingham, he took off running.

Threatening to stun Notthingham, the officer got him to stop running. During a safety search of Nottingham, the officer discovered a small bag with white crystalline substance that tested positive as methamphetamine, the affidavit stated.
