A 23-year-old man was behind bars Tuesday after police say he fled from a routine traffic stop.
Earl Kemari Bowman was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of evading arrest with a motor vehicle. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set Bowman’s bail at $20,000.
A Killeen police officer tried to stop Bowman just after 2:27 a.m. Monday after he failed to signal a turn near the intersection of W.S. Young Drive and Richard Drive. The officer turned on his lights and siren, but the vehicle failed to stop, according to an arrest affidavit.
The vehicle’s headlights were turned off as it continued driving at a high rate of speed. Bowman lost control of the vehicle and spun out into a field near the 600 block of W.S. Young.
The officer pulled in behind the vehicle and held Bowman at gunpoint until backup arrived and Bowman was placed under arrest.
Potvin also arraigned Austin Chase Toole, 20, on an unrelated charge of possession of a controlled substance in an amount of less than 1 gram. Toole’s bond was set at $20,000.
