COPPERAS COVE — A 28-year-old man is behind bars after being accused by Copperas Cove police of sexually assaulting a young child.
William Lester Shawl III was taken into custody by police Monday and arraigned on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a minor by Justice of the Peace Bill Brice.
The investigation into Shawl began Sunday. Police said the investigation revealed that he sexually assaulted a young female child multiple times over the span of a year.
Cove police did not release the age of the victim, or whether or not she was related to Shawl.
Shawl was taken into custody without incident. Price set his bail at $50,000. He has since been transported to the Coryell County Jail.
Continuous sexual abuse of a minor is a first degree felony, and is punishable by 25 to 99 years in prison, upon conviction.
