Man accused of sex with minor at BLORA to remain in jail

A 26-year-old man accused of having sex with a minor on Fort Hood property will remain in jail until trial.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jefferey C. Manske denied a motion for the pretrial release of Oscar Alonzo Acosta on March 6 in federal court in Waco.

According to a criminal complaint filed by federal investigators, Acosta, 26, and a 14-year-old girl were subjects of a criminal trespassing investigation by military police. During the investigation, it was determined Acosta and the girl had sex in Acosta’s vehicle at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area on Feb. 14, the complaint stated.

Acosta is charged with one count of sexual abuse of a minor. His lawyer initially petitioned the judge Feb. 20 to release him from custody pending trial, citing the fact that Acosta had no prior criminal record.

Acosta will remain in McLennan County Jail, with no bond, until his trial, which has not been set. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
