A 26-year-old Bryan man is in a Waco court facing allegations that he had sex with a minor on Fort Hood property.
Oscar Alonzo Acosta is charged with one count of sexual abuse of a minor.
According to a criminal complaint filed by federal investigators, Acosta and a 14-year-old girl were initially subjects of a criminal trespassing investigation by military police.
During the investigation, it was determined that Acosta and the girl had sex in Acosta’s vehicle at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area on the evening of Feb. 14, the complaint stated.
BLORA is considered Fort Hood property, and managed by the Fort Hood’s Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
According to a court filing by his attorney, Acosta is a full-time student at Blinn College in Bryan.
He also works full-time as an inspector for Rod and Tubing Services.
Acosta remains in custody in McLennan County Jail. On Thursday, Acosta’s lawyer petitioned a federal judge to release him pending trial.
“Acosta has no prior violent criminal history, is 26 years of age, and is committed to staying in the state of Texas to fight the charges against him,” wrote Craig A. Greening, one of Acosta’s defense attorneys. If convicted, Acosta could face up to 15 years in prison.
